Always! Security officers are putting their lives at risk too. Sometimes more than police b/c some don't carry guns. I salute all security officers!

The selection and qualificatin process for police officers is head and shoulders above any such process for any private security guard agency anywhere in the United States. No way in the world do I think a "rent a cop" should be given the same amount of respect and admiration that a police officer is.

I'll say up front that not all private security guard agencies are useless; some of them are very good to excellent. Unfortunately, those are the exception rather than the rule. For the most part, all you need to get hired for a security guard position is a pulse. There is little to no training, poor supervision, a lack of pride of work, no discipline....I've had extensive dealings with private security agencies and was even a supervisor in a guard agency once, and let me tell you that most security guard agencies are full of the biggest bunch of losers, 8-balls, foul-ups, screw-ups, lamebrained cop wanna-be's you can possibly find.

Being an officer requires a lot more work and training, so I respect them more than security guards. Not sure if that's the answer you wanted.

Security Guards should be given the utmost respect, although seldom given, because usually unarmed they are asked to guard and protect vital facilities such as transportation depots, banks, government facilities, retail centers and malls, etc., where their life and limb may be endangered at any given time. In many respects, their jobs and responsibilities may involve greater risk at times than even a police officer. Both, however, should be respected equally.

No, they always try to abuse their "power." They tell you to stop doing something in the mall if your fooling around a little with your friends but not bothering anyone.
