don't worry, there is nothing wrong with him. Almost all Betta's are like that. Mine was blue and red... with gold.... a little odd, but he was beautiful. Most come in multiple colors. That lady at the Pet store should not be working there. Go back and throw some water in her face ;)

The tank is very small for any fish. i have self belief undesirable for those undesirable Bettas.. He must be in a minimum of two.5 gallons to have room. those betta residences are a lot too small, no count number what the field says. They promote betta nutrients that reinforces their colour.. you'll hit upon it at any puppy keep, purely ask an associate. also, make advantageous your betta has a plant to disguise in and the water temperature must be interior the severe 70's with out fluctuation. remember to grant him time to regulate! He will be wiped out from the flow from the puppy keep for your position. good success with your new fish! :D

It's hard to say. With males they generally won't completely lose their color. (Females tend to go grey when stressed.) Certainly I find that their color great improves once they are fed right, kept warm, and have room to swim.
As far as your betta he may be white in color. It's possible he may change a bit in color over the next few months, or regain his old color. Honestly a white betta in a pet store is quite the find. Blues, and reds are the common colors. I'd read up on betta care, and see how he turns out.

FYI- Examples of white betta: (Note that these are betta you'd pay $30-200 due to their color, and tail shape.)

(Had a rather spunky female named alpha like the above. She was known to bully a 5 inch sailfin mollies, and beat up male betta.)

You should try feeding your fish "tetracolor" to enhance the color of the fish
