Menopause involves radically changing hormone levels. Mood swings are very common when hormones go crazy because these hormones help regulate the production of serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical that manipulates moods, so if their serotonin levels are low, they'll be unhappy or angry. If their serotonin is high, they'll be happy. Unfortunately, without those hormones behaving normally, the serotonin production is hit or miss. That's why PMS, pregnancy, and menopause often bring on erratic behavior.

To quote a joke I heard recently:
Q: How many menopausal women does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Three.
Q: .... Why three?
A: (with eyes shooting flames and steam coming out of her ears) BECAUSE IT DOES!!!

Sure do.

Estrogen levels drop right away to nothing. Testosterone levels -- which vary greatly from woman to woman anyway -- dip but then recover to much around their pre-menopuase levels. But without the estrogen to counteract the testosterone the levels of free testosterone rise, often dramatically, and hte end result is you get a 50 year old woman as angry with the world as a 16 year old boy, and just about as irrational.

In many ways menopausal women resemble teenage boys and in many ways they're going through similar hormonal problems.

Yes, very much so, our body's are going through ups & downs,
with our Estrogen Levels, plus hot sweats, chills, etc. some men
get it as well. So if you have a woman in the house going through
this, Yes Dear, No Dear or Run!!!!! It's a curse!
