Not in America at this time he isn't. Soccer is just not that big here maybe he will ignite a pouplarity, if he does than he will be worth it.

This is a huge gamble for the Galaxy --- maybe!
Pele couldn't do it, and there was another English (I think he was actually Irish) player before him who couldn't do it either.
If Beckham was not married to someone who the Americans would recognize (if they remember her at all after this time) the price would be a lot lower.
And, of course, he has not collected all of the money yet. The yanks are not stupid when it comes to that type of deal. The $250 million collects a lot of media attention but is it real? Who knows what hidden clauses lie in the details?
But for old Dave and his wife, "Why not?" A new scene, different admirers, still more money (always useful if not necessary) and what other options are there which are more attractive? Feeding starving children in Botswana? I would have done it in a minute, and I don't blame them for an instant either.
So, whether he is worth it or not isn't really important. He is not signing a contract with children (on their side) and he doesn't have a lot of better options (on his side) so go for it! If both sides are happy, you can be sure that if the whole thing fails both sides will be in good shape!

Even only playing a few minutes Beckham more than earned his paycheck in increased revenue for the Galaxy and every other team he played against in ticket sales, as well as the MLS in general by increasing awareness/interest in the league. All told he was easily worth the 250 million (especially considering only a fraction of that was actual salary paid by the Galaxy) investment already. To say nothing of what happens over the remaining 4 years of his contract. As for the comments of just playing for fame and money, by all accounts Beckham has never been anything but a great teammate, classy player, and hardworker. He very easily could have come to MLS, sat back and collected his paycheck. Instead he integrated well into the team, played injured and went in hard to win a ball that he easily could have shied away from that ended up injuring his knee. I have nothing but respect for the guy and I've never seen any reason to think otherwise.

Not a chance !!!!! Totally overrated. He can't tackle , head the ball or even take a man on . All he can do is score the odd free kick . Not much of a return for $250 million . In England and Spain he was a marketing dream......sales of replica jersey's etc, however, I don't think that will be much use in the US where there really isn't a great deal of interest in association football.

Hell no. The Galaxy just bankrupted themselves getting that washed up has been. The only thing Beckham will sell in America is dresses or something gay like that. Nothing will bring soccer into the lime light in America.

Beckham is **** and will always be **** in my books. He is way overrated. I would never have him on my team for a mill a week, Not even for a dollar a week. He had his glory but before it even started it was ending. The only resone they have him there is for hersey sales and mabey to promote soccer.

Don't forget... this is a business guess... if he generates more than that over...how many years (that is not $250 million a year)?.. then he is from the investor's point of view.

No...he does not he is to old for the sport at the age of 31. In addition, soccer is not that popular in America anyway. Plus I think it is wrong that we should pay authletes that much.
