You don't strictly "have" to have two eyes and two ears to see or hear.

What you get with two eyes is stereoscopic vision that gives you the ability to judge depth and speed of motion. It may not seem important, but imagine a one-eyed baseball player trying to catch a fly ball...

Same thing with hearing. You get a better idea of where sounds are coming from because your mind serves to triangulate the position of the source of the sound by the differences in the reception of the two ears.

Predators (and prey animals) rely on these features to track (or evade) each other...

"Stereo vision" allows you to have very acute depth perseption. Try closing one eye and estimating how far away something is or try to catch something that someone tosses to you (carefull). You will find out that without both eyes you have a very difficult time telling precisely how for away something is.

Having two ears has a similar effect on your hearing. Your brain uses that sounds heard my both ears to estimate from which dirrection a sound come from.

We dont-we see two things but they come together, try closing one eye and then switching. We do hear things similarly with both ears, but just from different angles.

So we get depth perception and stereo.

Try it! Get an eyepatch and one earplug. Try catching and throwing a ball. Try figuring out where a noise is coming from.
