in a quote I have that states that 'fathers tend to exhibit more unconventional behavior which tends to surprise and throw the child off balance, helping the child develop self control' but why is that important?

self control is a part of being an adult. its important to learn to control your temper, sexual desires, reactions etc. self control helps you to complete goals like education or weight loss.

I think children need both fathers and mothers in their life. If a father does any "unconventional" behavior than it's at least exposing the child to different forces and techniques that lie outside in the world. Self control is not only shown it is discovered as the self is discovered.

Balance is not perfection. Balance is a struggle to maintain. If there is no struggle than there is no balance. Easy street is not the way to learning self control. It's about learning how you work in high stress situations just as low stress ones.

Not sure what kind of "unconventional behavior" you are talking about. But, men aren't the only ones to throw a child off balance. Even so sometimes people need to fall down. That's when they learn about what it's like to get back on the horse.

Again your quote isn't specific so I don't know exactly what you mean.

We need to understand how we work individually. To control oneself is extremely important. It means developing ethics and principles or adapting others. It's a way to moderate how we are in the appropriate situation. Without control there is chaos.

So they can better evaluate a situation and not make it out more then it is.
