because it shows that you believe in it. plus not fighting for anything is kinda like not standing for anything. if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything. i heard or read that some where i think that applies now. so i believe it is important to stand and fight for what you believe in. plus if you don't you could lose it.

I think it's important to fight for the right to believe in what you believe. I'm not sure what fighting for what you believe in means.
Belief should come after knowledge so if you believe something strongly enough you know it to be true why then do you have to fight for it.
e.g I know grass is green if someone came up to me now and said grass is purple I would laugh and move on but if the government decide to make it against the law to believe that grass is green ..
well actually I am not sure I would fight that either but assuming your life is based on the fact that grass is green you would have to fight it to be able to practice it.
Importance or unimportance is irrelevant.
Is it important to stop somebody coming at you with a knife?

First of all, you should always choose your fights wisely. And I also prescribe to the saying, "Run today, to fight another day." However, there are some cases when standing up against others at the possible expense of your life is necessary to have any kind of meaningful life. There are times that we need to fight so that we do not lose what is most precious to us: the feeling that we have something within us that can't be taken from others. In our daily lives we are forced to make so many comprimises and many of us live lives that are far from what are ideals tell us the way we should live. However, if one has the ability to stand up and potentially even die for something, then it is like you are saying to the world: "You can beat me, you can torture me, you can take my livelihood, but you can't have my mind! My mind belongs to ME! And this is what will always be free no matter what extremes I am pushed to."
Sometimes it is better to live a short life with dignity than a long life of abuse and no self-worth.
I hope my answer made some sense to you.

Maybe fighting for something or a belief is the wrong way to put it. Maybe it should be believing in something and being willing to take the responsibilities on that belief may bring on. You know the old saying: If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. I do not have to fight anyone for what I believe. Jesus Christ is perfect proof of that. He could have wiped out all those that did not agree with Him. Instead, He lived and practiced His faith and earned respect from others. Forcing something on others is not a good way to practice anything and jumping into a fight is not a good way to show the world that your belief's are good for yourself and others. We should be very slow to anger and quick to understanding.

As long as you don't fight for it blindly.
Ideas and beliefs are tricky, because on one hand, it gives people hope and a sense of community, yet on the other hand, such beliefs can distort how people see the world and cause them to make very bad decisions.
People can even go so far as kill one another in the name of these beliefs which don't even exist outside our mindframe of the world.
A way in which to avoid such dillusions and even possible bloodshed is never become a proponent of another's beliefs for reasons other than your own individual reasoning. Do not ascribe to concepts because other's do; instead, formulate your own beliefs individually with the understanding that other's have the same right.

If you didn't fight for some of the things you believed in, you would be constantly questioning yourself. Thinking all the time, you wouldn't be able to define yourself, or actually accomplish things.
So there are some things you fight about, because they really define you.
Everything else is small stuff... and you're better off not wasting your time.

if you don't fight for what you believe in you will risk loosing the thing you believe in. if people didn't fight for their beliefs when our country was founded then we would not be the country we are today. our basic rights all gone and we could possibly be living under oppression. a person must always follow their convictions and their beliefs to the letter whether others agree or not. unless you want to live by others beliefs and convictions. you must be true to yourself regardless. if you aren't you will spend your life full of regret.

So that others may not take any credit for what you believe in. One should believe in only not fighting if you ask me.

I'm not sure I'd advocate "fight" in the strict sense of the word, but I do believe we do ourselves a terrible injustice to succumb to those things we truly don't believe in.

If one will not fight for what they believe in - what exactly will they fight for? Are they happy just being mere pawns to be moved around?
