The calendar the mayas made covered only to this date, so many people think it's because the world will end in 2012..
The mayans were said to be incredible astronomers..to have created the first calendar..and the zero at the same time as the chinese. Just so that you can picture it: they predicted each and every solar and lunar eclipse without ANY instrument other than their eyes. It'd be like if you try to predict the next 3000 year eclipses and making an almost perfect calendar with no instruments at all.
That's why some say that if they left their calendar up to there, there's gotta be a reason, some think they foresaw a meteorite or something like that, who knows.
But if you ask me I don't think that's the case, maybe it seemed boring to them to have to make a calendar that long, maybe they thought there was no point in continuing it if they were never going to make it to that date. Or, if you could, you would make a calendar for the next 3 milleniums? 4? 5? 6? 7 and on? I think it was mere laziness!

Well, The Mayan Calendar said that a very big disaster is to happen in 2012 and, that being the last part of the Mayan Calendar, is "said" to be the end of the world. I don't actually believe it, but there is a show that comes on like once every year or so on the History Channel that talks about it. Hope this helps.

It's when the Mayas predict the world ends. The actual date is December 23, 2012.

The Mayans have been known for his or her invention of a working calender... The 12 months led to our... December 14th, i've got self assurance, and their calender led to 2012. Why? no person is conscious... consistent with danger that they had parent, "we are going to make greater calenders whilst the time comes..." or, "Why make a calender for days after the international ends?" So, some say the international's going to end, because of the fact the mayans mentioned so. To be completely truthful, i think of actually everyone seems to be calling for a dependable excuse to point the top of the international, whilst zombies and extraterrestrial beings are thoroughly ignored by skill of the masses.

The Maya people calcuated the world will end at the year 2012.
The Maya people were actually very intelligent people. They calcuated many things. Most of the stuff they calcuated were correct. So who knows?

There will be a total eclipse of the Sun in November, the first in Australia since Ceduna in 2002. It will go from Darwin to Cairns and then out into the Pacific.

There is a Mayan calendar that ends a major cycle on that date. That is all. No big deal. It does not predict the end of the world or anything like that, although a lot of people wrongly believe that it does.
