I know is some states first cousins can marry, in other they cannot. Personally as I see it, cousins are NOT close enough kin for it to matter. And Step relations are not blood kin at all so they are fair game as well. Which reminds me I should call my cousin...

Marrying your cousin is NOT a Muslim practice... It's definately a cultural practice... Where the hell did u get that information? Just because it is a common occurance in Muslim countries it doesnt mean it is a Muslim practice.... For example, in Egypt... where there is Muslim, Christian and Jewish faiths... the practice of marrying cousins is common amongst both Muslim and Christian faiths...
Also, mental and physical deformaties are rare in these marriages...

Personally I would never marry any of my cousins, cause I consider them to be like brothers...

Within Islam, it doesnt mention anything anywhere that people can marry their cousins..
The only place in Quran I can think of that has anything to do with family and marriage describes how women are allowed to show their hair to their Uncles, fathers, brothers etc... It didnt mention cousins, and I think thats where some people have said, "well I guess that means since we can't show our hair to our cousins, that means we can marry them..."

It is also a common practice in India, where the country has many religions, and where Islam makes up only a small percentage of the population compared to the other religions.

Don't make assumptions Iseult... Do your research

Yes you can have a relationship with your cousin, but personally, i view that as weird!
I think if you're brought up with someone, like cousins, and even if you're not blood related to them (ie, step families) then a relationship is definately out of the question.

So, ANY relation is too close a relation in my book!

I think marrying anyone that you are related to by blood is an abomination. No matter how distant a relation. So marrying your cousin is not acceptable to me, legal or not.

I once had this conversation with a friend and his view was, well animals do it. My response to that was, well we have evolved!!
yes some animals do do it but they are primitive, we are not (well obviously some are!!). i think sex and relationships (the minority, well i hope) have regressed a little if someone confuses their love for a family member to that of a lover. No in my book they are two different types of love and let them remain that way!!

-In my view children of first cousins (children of aunts or uncles) are prone to mental retardation and/or depression. I've seen it in a geographical area where the practice was occasional with distressing results.
Under no circumstances should you even think of inter- generational incest (Father/daughter or uncle/niece). Seek professional advice in such circumstances.

I believe the blood is still too thick to marry first cousins. You may have to check with state laws to find this answer.

double first cousins are too close. george washington was married to his first cousin, and abraham was married to his sister in the bible. i think that thats a little too close too.

your "cousin" cannot be a 1st or 2nd cousin. inbreeding causes mental and physical deformities. it's something that was particularly practiced by muslims and ancient royalty. yeecchhh!

That question depends on whether or not you want to have children together.
