I was watching the Andy Murray vs Rafael Nadal match earlier today and although he lost, Murray played some brilliant tennis, certainly looks like a top 5 player already. Could he surpass federer in the future? Afterall federer was nowhere near this good at the age of 19, he was only just in the top 32.

Andy Murray is impressive and has a huge future if looked after and out for the right way. He played really well against Nadal. But Federer, at least right now, is in a class of his own. That's not to say he cannot or will not be beaten, all champions have defeats. The thing with Roger is consistency and he has continued to improve his game. Whether anyone will emulate him is yet to be seen. He is still himself only 25 and still has many years ahead to build his career and further forge his standing. Yes younger players are coming along gunning for him, but if they can do it for as long, or as well, or with as much class and success is questionable.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but for some, its hard to see the difference in the very talented and well....Roger Federer.!.ok the Super Talented!
I have taught tennis for a very long time and let me tell you this with no hesitiation.....Roger Federer is the most talented athlete playing in all of sport! Not just tennis! You can dismiss Murrays' win over Fed in a match that all but meant nothing to anyone anywhere! Federers' superiority in so many of the intangibles that help to create a true great in sport are so dominant it would be hard to believe if we weren't seeing it!
The players that have any chance of just beating Roger, forget dethroning him any time soon, are still Nadal, a true talent! Roddick who is hitting through the ball much better, but will have to be quicker closing in on the net against Feds passing prowess! Safin, another true talent has the guts and shot making ability, but can he can muster the will to get to the point where he can face Federer?
And believe it or not, if he can stay healthy enough to learn to believe in his own talent, watch out for Tommy Haas. He has big shots but may lack the speed and mental endurance to dish out all that Federer brings to the plate.
A lot of you are looking at these new guys wondering if any of them are the real deal.
Stop looking!
Monfil, Murray, none of the young Americans really have the talent of the upper echelon of players much less Roger Federer. Yeah they can hit a ball and run fast, but tennis is a game of intangibles!
Federer is the best Player to ever pick up a tennis racket....so get used to him making history! I seriously could not imagine some comming along better than him!

Thats a scary thought!

Has Murray won 17 grand slams like Federer? Federer just had a bad day at the olympics final. He will definitely beat Murray in their next meeting.

Federer is awesome at the mo-no-one can touch him apart from Nadal on clay-Super Andy will have his day-he'll win Wimbledon within the next three years.Nadal 6'1''-13 stone-Murray 6'3''-11 stone-he's still a baby compared to the top,top players-but hey just watch Scotland's finest when he fills out into his frame in the next couple of years-Once the stamina is there he will be unstoppable-he's got every other attribute to be the best in the world one day!!

yes Murray does have the potential of surpassing federer. In fact he had beaten Federer once. The one thing Murray has to improve on is to stop double faulting. The Murray vs Nadal match was very fascinating but as you can see Murray did not had enough stamina for the tough match.

No, Federer is probably going to end up being the greatest tennis player of all time. Murray may prove to be good but not that good.

I don't think so... Having a good early career during your teens don't guarantee a great career. He could be a good player, but I don't think he will surpass the greatness of Federer.

as long as people do not put to much pressure on him, and let him do it at his own pace, Brad Gilbert should be a good coach for him.

lets not start saying this is his year to win Wimbledon or we will end up putting him under the sort of pressure that wrecked any chance Henman ever had
