Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Hamilton

2007-01-22 12:07:00 · answer #1 · answered by dana5169 7 · 0 0

Benjamin Franklin is on the front of the $100 bill and was never president, and Alexander Hamilton ($10 bill) was never president either. Although no longer in circulation, the $10,000 bill featured a picture of Salmon P. Chase, the 25th Secretary of the Treasury, on it. The link is to a picture of the bill. There used to be larger denominations of currency--$500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, and $100,000 bills were all printed at one time. Hope this helps!

Currently, they are Benjamin Franklin on the hundred-dollar bill and Alexander Hamilton on the ten.

The second head of the U.S. Treasury, Salmon Chase, was on the $10,000 bill, printed from 1928 to 1946.

From the U.S. Treasury website:

United States currency notes now in production bear the following portraits: George Washington on the $1 bill, Thomas Jefferson on the $2 bill, Abraham Lincoln on the $5 bill, Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill, Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, Ulysses S. Grant on the $50 bill, and Benjamin Franklin on the $100 bill.

There are also several denominations of currency notes that are no longer produced. These include the $500 bill with the portrait of William McKinley, the $1,000 bill with a portrait of Grover Cleveland, the $5,000 bill with a portrait of James Madison, the $10,000 bill with a portrait of Salmon P. Chase, and the $100,000 currency note bearing a portrait of Woodrow Wilson.

Well to be technical, you asked about the dollar bill, which would be Washington and he of course was a President. But on bills in general, you have Alexander Hamilton, the first treasurer of the US, and Benjamin Franklin, the creative genius. And off the top of my head, I can't even name the bills they are on, but for sure, neither was ever a president.
