ok, i played world of warcraft in october, and tried to get myself to like it, but i just couldn't force myself to like it for some reason. but now, i have my eye on a game called guild wars. is there any major difference between these games besides the fact that they are two separate games? so although, i did not like world of warcraft, does anyone think that i will think of guild wars differently?

Guild Wars is quite different from World of Warcraft. Different enough, that disliking WoW doesn't mean you'll dislike GW.

What's different:

- GW has barely any level grind.
- GW is about how skilled you are. Every level 60 Mage on WoW is the same as every other level 60 Mage -- except for the gear they've bought or done a grind to get. They have the same spells, minor differentiations based on the specialization tree. On GW, you have 150 skills to pick from, but you can only equip 8. That means you have to choose your strengths AND your weaknesses, and play with those in mind. And: one size does NOT fit all. In order to succeed, you have to learn different combinations. On WoW, when you see a Mage, you know how he's going to play. On GW, you're going to get surprised, because that guy may be doing something you've never seen before. There are fantastic new builds discovered EVERY WEEK on GW.
- GW is fast to start, and you can play the end-game PvP on day one.
- GW's story has a much bigger effect on your game. In WoW, it's really just a background, but you can do whatever you want. In GW, the story is like the rails of a roller-coaster, driving you from one end to the other of the game
- GW is much faster. You level faster, fight faster, etc. Game sessions of 20 minutes are satisfying.
- There's no spawn-camping, etc. -- everyone fights in instances all the time.
- GW is very stripped-down, from a social point of view. Chat is really the only social tool you've got, and it's pretty rudimentary. If you really like the social aspects, GW is fairly weak.

It has a big, beautiful world like WoW, it has quests, it has millions of players, it has lots of exploration to do, it has swords and sorcery, etc.

I would give it a try. And if you have a friend who owns the game, they can give you a 10-hour game key for free, to try it out (you download the client.)

The major difference is that guild wars is a little "rougher around the edges" than world of warcraft, it's online play is free, and it's different because you can only link up with other players in town. In World of warcraft you spend a lot of time building up your character, but in Guild Wars you can change the skills and attributes and strengths and weaknesses of your entire character every time you go into town with no penalty.

WOW is way more polished and fun to play, but guild wars is free, and also you don't have to pay for it, plus they don't charge your credit card :). I'd compare it to a game like Diablo 2 which you can play online, but is mostly designed for single-player.

I used to play gw and yes its great. If you can spend the monthly fee, get WOW. Guild wars is pointed more to casual play, for people who arent on everyday. You can do many things such as trade, quest, player vs player battles and of course war with guilds. Its all up to whether or not you want to pay or not. Gw has the original and 2 add ons. You can buy any of them, as the add ons do not require the original. Hope you have fun whatever your choice may be.

Guild Wars is free, so you don't have to pay a monthly fee.

Guild Wars is more team oriented than WoW. The catch of GW is when Guilds go to war.

World of Warcraft definitely. Much more user friendly imo, and very good whether you want to solo or play with a group.
