the equation is y=mx+b, with y being the y coordinate, x the x coordinate, m the slope, and b the variable you are going to solve for.

the formula for slope is . . . hard to write here. You may know it already, but if you don't, plenty of math websites have it, as well as any textbook, if you have one with you.

All you really have to do is plug in a coordinate pair for the x and the y, along with the slope, and solve for b.

Your final answer will look like:

y=[slope here]x+[value of b]

Hope this helps!

Slope Formula: (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) (the numbers should be subscripted and stand for first point and second point).

slope = (6-1)/(-8-(-6) = 5/-2 = -5/2

Then take the slope and one point and plug the values into point-slope: y - y1 = m(x - x1). Solve for y, and you will have the equation of the line.

y - 1 = -5/2(x - (-6))
y - 1 = -5/2x -15
y = -5/2x - 14
