I had the same thought when purchacing my MacBook. I went with the MacBook 13" because it was like $1000 cheaper then the pro and had even better features then thr Pro. So I would suggest the MacBook 13" rather then spending over $3000 on a fully loaded MacBook when you can get the MacBook 13" fully loaded for $2200 thats just as good if not better.

I got a MacBook and some of my friends got the MacBook Pro. The MacBook is certainly a solid computer, just as solid as the Pro. What I realized is that the differences (assuming you buy the extra RAM in the MacBook- which you should) is that the Pro has a bigger screen and a much better graphics card.
If you are planning to use your laptop for any type of gaming, don't buy the MacBook because games are terrible on it. If that's not the case and it isn't all that important to you, I wouldn't even consider wasting the ton of extra money to have these things.

A Macbook pro is a far superior machine. The Macbook shares its graphics memory with system memory. The pro is a dedicated graphics card. You can crank that puppy up to 3gb onboard ram, but only as a custom order.

I have the macbook with the upgrades and I love it. However if I had had the money, I would've gone for the pro.
