Ok, so there are 24 students total and 5/8 are females. Well thats just pretty much simple. All you have to do is multiply 24 and 5/8. 24 times 5/8 is 15. If you want to check, you can subtract 8/8-5/8 to get 3/8 which is the males. 24 times 3/8 is 9. Since 5/8 is greater than 3/8, you are safe to say that there is exactly 15 females in the classroom.

24 students - the TOTAL #
divided into 8ths (8 parts)
so if 5/8 are female...that leaves.... 3/8 male
3/8 of 24 is.......
denominator (bottom number) goes into total #
8 goes into 24 ...... 3 times...
take that and multiply it by the numerator (top number)
3 x 3 = 9
