Dream is unconscious. Sometimes during the day, you might have seen something unpleasant or a horror movie, and you think you can overcome it by not thinking about it. However, our mind absorb everything through our senses, and those which are abandoned by us are being stored in our unconscious mind. Unconscious mind becomes active when we dream. For more information, you can check out books by Carl Young-Dreams.Carl-Young is a psychologist specialized in dream theory.

Nightmares are just snapshots of conflicts and fears that you have in real life. Did something traumatic happen to you recently? Chances are it's related to something traumatic in your life, whether it's recent or past only you can really say.

Sometimes when you are at crossroads and trying to make major decisions, nightmares come about. Try to face your fears in your nightmares and try to conquer or overcome whatever it is that is "chasing" you or whatever.

The only way to really stop them is to face the problem, best done in real life.

Different cultures approach dreams (nightmares) differently - we assume they happen to us. Change your mind set - after all you are the director - force yourself to stay in that limbo land when you are not fully awake and turn on the hairy beast and slay it. Or what the heck - fly away. Put yourself in charge.
