800mhz vs 667mhz or 533mhz. Noticable difference considering the price difference of almost $80? I play a few high performance games, i'm building a machine so its the option of time vs money vs quality.

If your motherboad does 800MHz, then GO FOR IT. It would be a total waste to build for speed, then NOT get it. You see, it's much cheaper to just BUY an OFF THE SHELF computer, then build.

Let's talk the Compaq tower only that they sell at Staples for $399. You get Case, Motherboard, CPU, Combo CD/DVD Burner, USB ports, power supply, cables, keyboard, Hard drive 512MB of RAM, Windows Home version software. HECK, your motherboard, CPU and RAM will cost almost that much. Then you would have to buy a hard drive, software and other parts.

..but it's fun.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

You'll see a slight increase in speed for thing like switching between programs and loading new programs. As for amount, you really don't need more than 1GB of ram unless you plan on running Vista. My system with Arch Linux on it uses about 80mb of ram with Firefox running, and the Ubuntu system uses about 200mb. Anyways, if you are using XP you'll be fine with only 1GB and I'd get the faster speed for better quality. If you're going to get a quad-core, I don't see a reason why not. I bought 800MHz RAM a year ago with a dual-core PC. If I were you I would even see if faster RAM was an option.

2 gigs can get you anywhere.

512 GB is normally around $50. I'd say get two 1 GB sticks and put them in your machine. It will do wonders. I have two 512 GB (Because I am poor) and it makes WoW run great. Make sure to get a Video Card such as GeForce 5500 or higher. They are only like $70 now, and also let me run WoW on highest settings with no problems at all. It all depends on what you play though. 5500 isn't great for games such as F.E.A.R. Its waaay too low. A 7500 can be found for around $200.

Let me add from what the guy said above: Compaq computers are NOT worth it. They are hard to upgrade and the RAM is NOT enough. The video card fails to meet today's games.

If you are into games go with the 800, and a good grafics card. More ram equals speed, and a grafics card with its owm memory takes the drag off of the cpu.

Always get the most memory you can afford.
