In about 4 billion years, our sun will have used up the hydrogen it fuses to make light and heat. When that happens, it will initially shrink a bit, and the collapse will allow enough additional heat and pressure for it to start fusing helium. But it can only do that for a few million years, at which point it will become a "red giant" star, it's outer atmosphere will swell to be larger than earth's orbit, and the earth will be incinerated. That's it, the end of the world. We've got until then to find another place to live, or no more humans. I think we can probably find another place in 4 billion years :)

It's certainly not going to be one of those religious myth stories -- those guys have been predicting the end of the world for 2000 years now, and they've never been right. There is no evidence of any kind that supports their notion of the end of the world, while the scenario above is based on fact. So unless we get hit by an asteroid or comet before then, that's how it will happen :)

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" 2 Peter 3:10-12
God put the world here and that's the way he says that it will end.
He said "the heavens will pass away with a great noise". They're going to EXPLODE. All God has to do is to remove the oxygen from our atmosphere, and there would be an instant explosion; Hydrogen bomb. "Fervent heat", everything melts, then nothing left.

well I think if the bombs don't destroy the world, then maybe another flying rock from space just might end the world. But really I think the world will come to an end by war with bombs.

I think that the world could end in several ways. Eventually, mankind could destroy itself with a weapon of mass destruction or even terrorism. I have also heard many theories about the end of the world, and one of them was that a volcano (I don't know where) whose eruption is 20,000 years overdue would erupt and end the world in a similar way that Pompeii was destroyed.

The sun will get about 10% bigger and much hotter in a billion or so years. Life on earth would struggle to cope with that kind of increase, and the oceans could even evaporate.

I think that mankind will cause itself some serious damage (billions dead through greed and incompetence) but we won't manage to quite kill ourselves off.

I learned that the anti christ is to appear on earth and to tell people that every thing is to get better but at the end all hell is to break loose and the end is coming soon and its not going to be pretty at all.

When the Almighty God chains Lucifer. And even then it won't end. Sin and abominations as we know it will end when Lucifer is bound.
