The force of 1 on 2 is equal to the opposite the force of 2 on 1. If the earth is pulling the moon the moon is pulling back with equal force.

Whenever A exerts a force on B, B is simultaneously exerting a force of the same magnitude on A, in the opposite direction.

The grade school experiment with magnets comes to mind.

1. Blow a balloon full of air and just let it go. The action here is the air coming out of the balloon and the reaction is the flying of the ballon.
