This isn't a new cold war at all... The US and PRC are huge trade partners, and China would have nothing to gain by attacking satellites. They're simply testing weapons but I doubt they have any intent of ever using those weapons against the US or the EU.

Every time I drive by a crowded Walmart parking lot I am reminded of this

However - the satellite issue - its disturbing because..well, on a small level - all of out cell phones rely upon satellites - look at how freaked out people get if they lose service for a few hours.
And on a larger level - all of our intelligence is gleaned from Satalites.

A much more insidious question is this: what motivated them to want to shoot down a satalite? Were they really concerned about keeping space tidy? I think not.

The technologies you're speaking about: stealth, anti-stealth, GPS, and satellites are all very intense priced and smash the international into numerous levels militarily... The haves and the have-nots. To have, you should have various money and get entry to to the technologies or be able to strengthen (or opposite engineer) them your self. that is very authentic at the same time as the technologies produces a paradigm shift (fullyyt new way of wondering) and strategies besides. As of in the present day, stealth is a bonus over various the international's militaries because the technologies reduces the prospect that plane equipped are able to be detected, centred, and not in any respect finished their project and as the most acceptable countermeasures to those plane are very intense priced and for this reason uncommon. it is going to proceed to be an income so long via the undeniable fact that is valuable and/or the countermeasures adverse to it are easily rendered ineffective. each and every of the at the same time as, the US military has a tendency to proceed to benefit and attempt to purchase into the technologies-after-next and to flow from really specialist unmarried-income craft to multi-approach guns that would want to effectively employ numerous strategies to benefit. An party of that is the transition from the F117 Nighthawk in direction of the destiny FB22's. the position the F117 depended soly on stealth, the FB22 could have stealth, intense and espresso speed and altitude flight profiles and the flexibility to community sensors to allow stand off attacks that proceed to be precise without GPS. A valuable counter to stealth would no longer be so sensible at the same time as the objective would not manifest itself into your purpose envelope... This continuous improve is intense priced, as are the countermeasures. So, so long because the US military strives to stay one step ahead, has the money and recognize-a thanks to finish that (surprisingly on the grounds that a lot of those technologies have civilian applications), and the countermeasures are of similar price to container effectively the US military will probable proceed to be in user-friendly words subordinate to the whims of the US economy, voters, and governmental criteria.

Yeah. But it won't matter soon because with our current war debt, China could buy the United States. And if they don't the Saudi's will.
