Go to this site http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.html and put in your location and it will give you sunrise/sunset. You'll have to subtract the two to get the hours of daylight.

You need to know the latitude of the location, and the sun's declination at the date in question. The declination will be the sine of two pi times the number of days since the equinox over 365 days, times 23.5 degrees. From there, it's some spherical trigonometry; I wrote a computer program to figure it out. You will need to know that sunset or sunrise occurs when the sun is 90.83 degrees from the vertical, to take into account the sun's diameter and atmospheric refraction.
