Think of it this way. Life on earth is like a snowy day. Think about the clouds as beginning of life and the ground the end. A snowflake is a living thing, it begins life when it starts to fall to the ground and dies when it reaches the bottom. The snow storm would be the life of a certain species, think of the dinosaurs, they began life when the storm started and they became extinct when the snow stopped and melted off the ground. Another storm started after that, our storm. Eventually the storm will stop the snow will melt and that will be the end of humankind. Then maybe another storm will start with completly new life.

I guess the comparison to snow flakes is alright. But was it really the beginning of the snowflake when it left the cloud? Or was it a mist of vapor that changed into rain then evolved into a snowflake? Life is all about changes and the change is what keeps us going. Sure change can kill the dinosaurs but the storm that ended their life was not the everchanging snow flake at all.
