I have an authentic Windows XP Pro cd, but there is no service packs embedded in it. The problem I am having, is that I just bought a 300GB hard drive and Windows XP won't recognize all of it (will only recognize 180GB out of the 300) without at least SP1. Well, is there a work around for this problem?

I had done it before but essentially, you have to make a new CD from your old one with service pack 2 installed already.
In order to do this, you have to make sure hidden files are shown on your system along with the file extensions.
Next, copy the contents of your Windows cd into a new folder on your desktop.
Then, download service pack 2 from the first link below.
Finally, look at the second link to integrate the downloaded file into the windows cd contents you copied first.

Make a new windows CD with those cobined files from the folder and it should install XP pro with service pack 2.

No need to go Pro. From what you've said, you don't have any need for the Pro version. I don't even understand why you want to buy XP. If you can get window's updates ok, then it's been verified as genuine. You should look at buying more RAM and/or updating your video card, depending on why you think it is "unstable". If you really think there is a need to buy XP, do NOT buy XP retail... it'll cost a small fortune! You should be able to find used genuine versions for 90% less than retail. Call around some of the local mom & pop PC stores. Lot's of people sell their old software. Whatever you do, DON'T try to put Vista on that machine!!! From the spec's you've provided, your machine simply doesn't meet the minimum requirements for Vista. .
