What is the counter-technique for a supervisor bullying me or insulting my powers of observation at work ?

the purpose is for control and paying me less vs an increasing work load

Running away is an option that doesn't nterest me so what do smart people do ?

Next smart *ss comment from the super - make sure someone is nearby as a witness(who is not a chicken *hit) and say in a clear voice "do you want to put that in writing for my next review?" "and would you like to explain this comment to (next level of management)/"

Be polite but expect to go to the next level as a person is is being haressed not helped by the super. Also explain that constructive comments would be perferred.

If your annoying supervisor's superior is around and available, I would make a conscious effort to befriend him/her- and let the supervisor know it. If they think you're on friendly terms with their boss, it's pretty likely that their attitude will suddenly shift.

If this doesn't work, or if the supervisor is mature enough to handle it (though bullying doesn't indicate they are...) you could always try telling this person that you feel you deserve either a raise or a decrease in your workload. Pay attention to those around you, and how much work they're doing. That may give you fuel for your debate.

If absolutely everything else fails, you can always file a complaint with Human Resources. Insulting employees in unacceptable, and HR should be able to discipline or otherwise step in to remedy the matter.

Ask that supervisor what it is that makes him so interested in what you are doing and why he thinks that insulting you will make you improve, as his methods are known to be a bad management practice! Tell him he needs to read the "One Minute Manager" and offer to buy him a copy!
