I have an ASV / Cat skid steer loader. This machine is a track machine. The tracks run off of the same hydraulice motor as everything else. the tracks work fine, the lift works fine, but the bucket tilt will not operate. Two weeks ago I had the cylinders for the tilt, rebuilt. It was working fine. now, it will not move. it just dangles and flops around. I checked for leaks, there aren't any. I pulled the hoses loose from the tilt and there is a lot of pressure. Should both lines on one cylinder be blowing fluid at the same time? I thought that one would suck while one pushes and when you move the joystick, vice versa. I might be wrong. well, that is why I am asking. Can anybody help me?

If this was the cylinder, it would be one or the other. not both at the same time, huh? I got a little more information. When my operator was using the machine, he had it in a bind up against a root. the bucket popped off of the root and he said it shook the heck out of the machine. that is when it quit working.

The controls are operated by what are called "spool valves" that vary the direction of fluid to the cylinders.

Some are controlled manualy through the joy stick via linkage, others are controlled via electronic motors that slide the spool valves.

There should be some residual pressure in the lines all the time while the engine is running. The pressure is not that much though. 150-200 psi. (both lines)

Only one line at a time should have operating pressure 2000psi or greater. The other line has to remain semi-pressureized so that the hydraulics don't collapse.

More than likely, your spool valves are not working.

One other option is the packings/piston in the hyd. cylinder has blown allowing the fluid to pass through instead pressuizing one side of the ram.

you are right you have a service line and a return line ...double check how you put hoses back on are they right...if operator put too much of a load on system could have popped a releif valve ...follow lines back towards main pump there will be a gang valve probebly two lines for each operation ...drive , lift, tilt, etc... you will have a solinoid for each operation ..to check leave key on not running disconnect one wire at a time and listen for clicking sound check all not just oneif you cant here it click it might be bad...good luck
