Which of the numerous great Yankee teams of the past do you consider to be the best ever. Some would consider it to be the 1998 winners of 114 games or the historic teams with Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle , but I want to know what you think.

The '27 Yankees were the greatest team of all time, and the 1998 Yankees were really the first team to challenge them for that distinction.

The '27 Yankees had outstanding pitching, but that staff was on its last legs. They won it again in '28, but then the pitching staff fell apart, allowing the Philadelphia A's to win pennants in 29, 30 and 31.

The '98 Yankees may have had the greatest balance between great offense and great pitching.

None of the Yankee teams from the 50s were as good, and as deep, as the 98 or 27 versions. And the '61 Yankees, often cited by uninformed fans as one of the greatest offenses of all time (because they hit a then-record 240 Home Runs), didn't even lead the AL in runs scored (due to the fact that Richardson and Kubek, their 1-2 hitters, NEVER got on base).

I'd give the '27 Yankees a slight edge, because Ruth and Gehrig were so good that it was like having FOUR superstars instead of two.

But the '98 Yankees are the closest thing to a perfect team, other than the '27 Yankees.

I believe the 1998 Yankees team has to be considered as one of the greatest of Yankee teams but others do come to mind as having a say to this title.
But Iconsidered the greatest of all Yankee teams to be the 1927 New York Yankees then the 1998 New York Yankees and the great Yankees team between 1949-1964 when the Yankees won all but the 1954 and 1959 pennants. This took the 1954 Cleveland Indians to go 111-43 and the Yankees were 103-51. The 1959 White Sox won their pennant over Cleveland by 5 games and the Yankees finished 3rd 6 games back so the Yankees teams then could be considered as the greatest.

Look, the '98 team was great, and they steamrolled everyone in the playoffs, but the '27 yanks are definitely more famous. They had a nickname (murderer's row), where as the '98 team doesn't, so they're not as memorable. C'mon, in 20 years you think anyone outside of New York will remember Scott Brosius or Paul O Neil or Bernie Williams? Nope, give it to the '27 Yanks just for the fact that they had the Freakin' Bambino.

I personally think the yankee teams of the 1970's.I was born in 1970,so I was too young to see the Babe or Mickey Mantle, but I really loved watching the yankees when they had Thurmon Munson catcher,Chris Chambliss first base,Willie Randolph second base,I forget who their shortstop was, Graig Nettles third base. That was a great team.I can't forget Mr.October Reggie Jackson also.

It is going some distance previous the 39 pennants and 26 championships. in many seasons they have amassed very a lot of skills, and typically used it to maximum perfect income. because 1920 the Yankees have very virtually always been a crew to beware of, and frequently the Yankees have prevented needing wholesale rebuilding. One exception change into interior the mid-Nineteen Sixties, even as countless getting old gamers retired and there have been no longer adequate sturdy backups to take their places, in spite of standouts like Mel Stottlemyre and, later, Thurman Munson. (issues were so undesirable that the Yankees complete in 10th position in 1966; they were the in uncomplicated words crew that change into no longer a perennial doormat to end that low.) starting up with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the american legend of serious gamers has grown. Nor did the Yankees purchase all of them. Ruth change into offered from the pink Sox, to be particular, and Roger Maris from Kansas city, yet others, like Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle and Derek Jeter, were homestead-grown, in order to talk. (Accusations of the Yankees paying for the pennant got here interior the 1920's and the 1950's - even as Kansas city change into derided as a Yankee farm crew - besides as as we talk.) another stat includes ideas. in uncomplicated words the Yankees have received the pennant 5 consecutive years, and they did this two times (1949-1953 and 1960-1964). the first time, in addition they received all 5 international sequence! Love 'em or hate 'em (it change into once remarked that rooting for the Yankees change into like rooting for commonplace automobiles), the Yankees are certainly the astounding baseball crew ever. And this from a Mets fan! (if you're speaking about someone crew attempt, I nevertheless plump for the 1969 Mets, because all 25 gamers made a distinction, yet it really is a unique communicate.)

The 1927 Yankees were not called Murderer's Row for nothing. No team has had such a nickname since.
