Why cant i text on my samsug cingular SGH-C417 like i cant even get texts? why?

Well, it could be for any number of reasons.
One, your phone might not be SMS-enabled (it doesn't have the proper software/hardware for sending and receiving text messages).
Two, you might not have subscribed to text messaging - on many carriers, text messaging is an optional service, so if you've got a bare-bones package you may not have text-messaging capability on your phone, even if it is text-message-capable.
Three, the primary account holder might have asked the 'phone company to put an SMS block on your number (this usually happens when a parent buys a cell phone for a teenager, and doesn't want said teenager running up enormous text-messaging bills).
The only way to find out for sure is to call Cingular customer service and ask.

Maybe you don't have the service. My parents blocked it on my little bros cuz he ran up the bill a few hundred dollars! Call your service provider, 611 or whatever you use...they will help solve your problem really easy over the phone
