Have Americans taken a sudden 180-degree turn like most liberals?

The answer varies depending on your opinion of the war currently and what your definition of winning the war is.

In my view, it's not that Americans is against winning the war in Iraq. We are NOT winning the war, which is most troubling to all Americans. I believe, every one knows that our credibility is being tarnished the longer we stay there. And it seems painfully difficult to find a simple or absolute strategy to change the events unfolding in Iraq currently.

All American is for winning the war in Iraq. Never EVER mistake the American attitude towards this conflict. We are simply, just finding ourselves deeper into what seems like a quicksand of failures and the branches that may aid us have thorns (I'm talking about political aid from neighboring countries INCLUDING Iran & Syria)

Due to this situation... there is growing resistance of the war and also towards the decisions of this current Administration. Like I've said before screw up enough times and you'll start getting complaints and talks of dismissal from your job.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Theodore Roosevelt

I wouldn't have thought most Americans were against winning the war - more like losing the war, as is happening right now.
Incidentally, on May 1st 2003, President Bush announced that the coalition troops in Iraq had prevailed and were now engaged in reconstructing the country!!!!! So, according to G.W., the war was won over 3 years ago!!!

Dont listen to what these idiots are saying on the other answers (its a good question). But for the US to win a war against China or Russia is different to fighting basic terrorists... China and Russia are government militaries so if they suffer defeats their governments will authorise surrenders and peace treaties, however in vietnam the US were faceing the regulars and civilans and the majority of these fought at their own accord like they do in Iraq etc

It is called liberal brain washing from the media. people do not want to think for themselves or read for themselves so whatever Katie Couric or Matt Lauer tells them is true they believe like it is the gospel from the book of John. People want to blame someone so they instantly think that Bush is the bad guy but they forget that Congress also had a hand in this and are really hampering the efforts by constantly bashing the administration. Do they really think that the insurrgents can not watch TV and see that our Gvernment is now divided on this...it only fuels them to know that we are mixed over here. That is how people vote as well, they watch the TV and say "I better vote like they told me becasue that is who will win" rather than researching for themselves. They then complain later that everything is screwed becasue of the stuff they voted for. It is all about educating yourself.

nukes would have been a much simpler option right from the start, not only would they have all surrendered, the rest of the middle east would've thought twice before getting smart with Americans ever again, especially if we tell them the next one is pointed at mecca....but its too late now, time to leave an unwinnable war, and come to a realisation that there IS a reason we have nukes....TO USE THEM when necessary!!!

"Winning" a war in Iraq means thousands of men, women, children and American and other international soldiers are DEAD. Why should anyone die just to "WIN" a war? This is real life people, people should live a long healthy life, not die so that bush can "win." Deaths don't mean a win.

A lot of Americans believe the war cannot be won, no matter what

mostly it's the fault of the media, who can't seem to show anything but the negative aspects (of anything!). good news doesn't sell, I guess.
the second reason is that Americans are impatient. anything that can't be done fast isn't worth doing, it's a failure, onto the next project. the truth is, any major sociological change takes at LEAST 10-15 years to take hold in a society. look at Japan, how long were we there after WWII? a long time. but it worked, japan was stablized and rebuilt.
