New computer 2 months old, XP.
Wouldn't start; never got past the first screen.
No 'beep'. Control + alt + delete, escape, F8, all did nothing.
Removed side panel and checked for loose connections. None found,
Removed peripherals and power cord and restarted, same result. Tried restart with program disc in CD drive, same result.
While sliding box back under desk, inadvertently hit power button and the machine booted up.
I'm concerned that his is indicative of a problem and will happen again.
Any clues???

If your computer is not working properly when it is switched on, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yd34oj

If it does happen again..

↓ Keep tapping F8
↓ Wait for a new boot up screen
↓ Start in Safe Mode
↓ Allow Windows to detect problems

The software/hardware is normally very effective at sorting out problems.

Odds are you have a faulty power switch.....

Check the area under the button itself for obstructions (if the button is not able to depress all the way, it may be making just enough contact to start it going but getting confused essentially.)

Sounds dumb I know.... but you would be surprised what stupid crap does to a computer sometimes.

Worst case scenario..... $35 at a local shop and they can analyze it for you if it continues to happen.
