It's a barbaric custom. In some places it's believed that the women will do nothing but run around enticing men for sex if they are left intact, so they are mutilated, usually in very unsanitary conditions and with no anesthesia, to kill their sex drive. It's not just African countries either. It was done in the US as well as other countries. Up through the 1950s it was often recommended by Doctors to reduce masturbation (wonder what they suggested for men, cutting it off too?) Blue Cross Blue Shield paid for clitoridectomies in the U.S.A. until May 18, 1977.
It is NOT necessary and is extremely cruel and inhumane. Women are not dogs, we are quite capable of controlling our sex drives.

It is just a common custom that is practiced widely throughout Africa. It is said to be effective in preventing women from becoming sexually active outside of marriage by dramatically decreasing the amount of sexual pleasure and almost completely preventing the female orgasm. Often times, the women native to these cultures do not consider this practice cruel or unneccessary but rather a sort of birthrite or passage into womanhood.

Female Circumcision and infibutlation is customary in some cultures. It is thought that when a woman reaches a certain age the chances of her becoming promiscuous or committing adultery are minimized with such a procedure. It is a cultural necessity, in some cultures a woman is forbidden to marry if such a procedure had not been done.

Female circumcision, which is what you're talking about, is strictly a custom and not a health necessity. It's really mutilation of female genitals. It's done to deliberately prevent women from having sexual pleasure for fear that they will cheat on their husbands. It's a horrible practice.

It is a cruel and horrible tradition based on a distorted view of Islamic teachings and not practiced in the bulk of the Islamic world. But it is in North-east Africa and parts of Egypt. It is sometimes referred to as Pharonic Circumcision, but there is no evidence of a link with Ancient Egypt.

It's in the name of custom. And it's meant to take the sexual lust out of a woman, so she won't desire other men. (They chose to neglect that she has no reason to desire her own husband either).
Female circumcision is nowadays still carried out in parts of western and southern Asia, the Middle East and large areas of Africa. It also existed in the USA, only one generation ago this was used to cure "oversexed" women.
It is an extreme form of oppression of women, and potentially life-threatening.
It's increasingly protested against by many woman and woman's organisations, and those who persist in the practice in Senegal will now face a prison term of between one and five years.
Hopefully more governments will soon follow.

In some cultures women are not supposed to experience the pleasure of reproduction, I think it is to keep them pure for their wedding night or something.
I think it is a sick and barbaric tradition. I saw a woman on a talk show one day who had that done. Fortunately, they were able to recreate it and she even got some feeling back throgh cosmetic surgery.

This custom is from Islamic believers who from inception of Islam through fake God Allah had given men the power of life and death over woman.
It is somewhat like neutering a pet. They cut off the organ that gives women pleasure.
Flee Islam before they kill you - Women of the world unite against the the barbaric Muhammad the seducer of 9 yr old, and adulterer of all women he can do it with, and his fake god Satan(Allah) .
Peace be unto you when you get away from Satan's grasp on your equal rights.
