I like to watch certain teams and certain sports from time to time but I would say I am well below average viewing time. Why are so many people strangely cultic about it? It is very weird to me.

For some people it's an obsession. I just like sports for occasional entertainment.

I think people like sports so much because it brings them back to a place where the strongest and most athletic rule. They appeal to our "strongest survive" time, when the strongest would get first pick of the mates. This is why, i think, physical sports, l like football, tend to rule.

i guess (opinion) that people thinks whatever sport they play is what the sport they should watch. Or maybe whatever country's sport is what the majority of the people there should watch.

It's all about feed the masses circus and peanuts, I think it was Julius Cesar. It keeps the masses entertained so they won't revolt. It's so easy to get over on the masses. Just like Y Answers.

dude, it is my LIFE!!!!! i breathe, i live, i sleep, i eat, i AM sports!! haha..lol =P..my reasons:
-they get you fit.
-they are really fun
-very simple to do anywhere, but yet quite fun
-burns time
-burns calories.
-they are competitive and agressive, and most people (especially guys) have a strong desire for that.
-they get you pumped up and energized.
^ just a few of the many reasons people play sports. that's all i could think of off the top of my head.

Sport is distraction from work and stress, just like if u listen to music or watch tv, distractions

i can relate and i ask myself that question all the time. i think it's because we have had sports for so long and they connect everyone.
i personaly don't believe in sports

this is a good question, it has always been a mystery to me. perhaps its because a family member is on the team or a friends family member etc, think of how many teams there are from every area.

Because it's very competitive. It's fun to watch people play and then see who wins. It's fun to cheer on!
And they're also fun to play because of the competition involved.
