Here's an idea. Have a mini-mardi gras celebration. You can rent out a hall or do it in your backyard or any big open space in your house. At the door, hand out mardi gras masks, and beads. Have loud music, and a buffet table (and a gift table) filled with foods you love. Also try to include New Orleans-style food. Have little competitions (i.e dancing competitions) for the BIG beads. They are the best beads, and you can find them at a party store for about 10 for $2. The more Big beads you have, the better your goodie bag, which by the way you will give out at the door. Also, get a prize for the person with the most amount of beads. The goodie bag should have masks, candy, more beads and whatever you want to throw in there. Make the room colorful with colors like orange, purple, yellow, green, and red. Also, hang up your Christmas tree lights around your house and dim down the lights.
This celebration is inexpensive. You can find everything at your neighborhood party store.

I'm thinking back to what I did around 12 for Birthday parties... One year we did a "modeling" theme where we all got dressed up in different outfits or dresses with our makeup and hair done and got our pictures taken, or another was temporary tattoos or henna. Another theme I did for my 17th was a Hawaiian Luau Party, theres tons of stuff at Party City for that theme, some other things you could do is base a party around your favourite movie. Like Grease or Dirty Dancing or whatever. You could play trivia games based on the movie for prizes or whatever. Goodluck with your party!

Hi Kristen!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
4 craft activities: Beading is great for any age and depending on the length of yr party, u can plan for 1/2 hr - hr. 2 'get started' on any project, 4 gals & guys & u can also make yr own beads* out of fimo/sculpey modelling clay and they only take 5 min 2 bake...their r great books out there but the books by 'kids can press' r awesome and easy 2 follow with photos; as well orgami is becoming popular again, beeswax candle making is really easy-only 15 min or less, comes in several colors and yr local craft store person i'm sure would b happy 2 supply u with easy instructions...just remember 2 supply yr guests with instructions, easy pkg. for the 'start up supply' u provide, etc.....happy crafting!
(*ck out my 'bible': www.bead&button.com)
thn 4 other activities u could incorporate a murder mystery theme to yr party and all yr guests would play a part, giving a prize to the person who guesses the murderer (get yr parents to help so even the murderer doesn't know he/she is the murderer and can guess); max haines mysteries' kits r out there in our fav book stores, maybe a website too..thn u could start off with a corpse activitiy where u pass around "body parts**' of the 'victim' in the dark (**eyeballs=peeled grapes), and u can also have game of "wink" whr u would run around people sitting crossed legged n a circle in dark and tap shoulder of one person (no peeking) and thn aftr min u start game a everyone has to look around at everyone--if murderer winks at u , count 2 5 in head thn act dead and u r out of game!! If u think u kno, ask tapper secretly thn if wrong u r dead!!...etc. get it? (i used this as a warm up exercise for a murder mystery play i directed to get actors to look at each suspiously--it helped!! Anyway, the amount of ideas r endless even on a smallll budget.!! Hope this helps u some and have a blast! Cheers!!xo

My friends and I always enjoy outside games to play in the dark like flash light tag or hide-in-seek. Stay away from board games unless you find some really exciting one and try to do something active where you're running around and laughing.
