Hi,

I just bought a second hand Daewoo Matiz 2000. When the engine is off I noticed the gear could still be shifted without stepping on any clutch. Is that normal? How else could I test the car to make sure it's all working fine?

If everything else is working ok, there is no problem. The engine being off (whether the car is in motion or not) once you'd have shifted the stick to neutral there's absolutely no connetion between the drive train and the clutch. That means no power is moving anything and therefore the car cannot move unless it moves of it's own dead weight such as when coasting. You can actually sit in a motionless car, with engine off of course, and just keep shifting gears. Usually only reverse gear may be difficult to select without clutching

all standard transmissions can be shifted when not running. even when its running you can shift a transmission without the clutch - your tranny wont last long unless you know how to do it but when its not running theres nothing for the clutch to stop turning so it doesnt matter. just dont force it back into a gear it doesnt want to go in - you'll break the synchronizers

yes that is normal for most any standard transmission to all but usually reverse gear.
