Some gay men want 'visibility at any cost' because they think that only through 'total transparency' can we move forward as a community.

Some gay men want every other gay man to be as strong as they are.

"Coming out' is a personal development issue, not a 'gay liberation' issue at all. My sexuality is not a publically-owned political asset. When I came out, I did so for my own benefit, not for every gay man in Australia.

A LOT of people, whether they're doing a lot or a little to make the world better, get angry / frustrated at those who are doing less. Many people feel that simply BEING out goes a long way towards improving things (I'm inclined to agree; it doesn't let people get away with false assumptions, and it's harder to actively HATE someone you actually know and like). I don't defend any attacks on people still in the closet, so long as said people aren't actively attacking the rest of us. (I draw then line when there's politicians who are passing anti-GLBT laws etc) I think it's important that everyone do that on their own time.

Most gay people do not attack closeted gay people, we only tell them how much better our lives are by being out so that is an option that can be considered. When I say that my life is better by being out than when it was when I was closeted it is only my personal experience that someone can consider if they think it may be better for them, but the decision to be out or closeted is a personal decision.

The only exception is someone in a position of power (such as a politician or church leader) who condemns gay people while being gay themselves. In these cases, they are attacked more for their hypocrisy than their being gay.

Even though I am a straight woman, I would say that the reason is because the gay people that are out get sore about it because the people who are still in the closet are afraid that they will be attacked by all of the gay haters and be the victims of gay hate crimes and have to try to fight for justice (though in today's society that is extremely inexcusable). They just want to live their lives in peace and also the are worried that if they do come out to their families that some if not all of their family members will disown them (as happened to a friend of mine with his father and HIS side of the family before I met him).

I hope that I answered the question to your satisfaction.

The only time I "attack" closeted gays is when they bash homosexuals in an effort to convince others that they are straight.

Because some closeted people are some of the most virulent gay-bashers on the planet. Just look at Ted Haggard and Mark Foley for examples.

If you can't be true to yourself, I don't place much stock in anything that you have to say.
