Being Agnostic just means you don't know what you believe.
It's a whole lot better than saying you believe in hate.

Agnostic is just another word for a sub-group of atheists. The word was coined by Darwin's Bulldog, Thomas Huxley in the late 19th century. I much prefer to call myself an atheist. There are some who claim that atheists believe there is no god but this is not true. Atheists have no beliefs. It is not that I believe there is no god but that I do not beleve there is one. There is a difference between the two statements.
If you would like to read an excellent and fascination book on the subject, read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. You'll find it in any bookshop.
As far as people freaking out, I haven't noticed this happening. If people try to tell me about their religion and attempt to convert me to it, I feel I have a duty to try to convert them to atheism. I must say, when you think about it, there are much stronger arguments for the non-existence of gods than there are for their existence.
What do you care what other people think? Think for yourself and come to your own conclusions. They are as valid as anyone else's - and probably more valid than those of many of the god-botherers.

Try telling them you're an Atheist if you want to see people freak. Most religions instruct their followers to "spread the gospel" which to me means "recruit as many idiots as you can so the church makes more money". So they push their religion on people. I'm an Atheist...I don't preach my beliefs and don't want to hear anyone else's. I don't hate anyone. Well, I get really annoyed at religious freaks occasionally.

I like your attitude of "don't push your religion on me." It is something Republicans feel obligated to do unfortunately. Anyway I am a Christian, and before I met a friend who is Agnostic, I didn't know a thing about it. I think the name "Agnostic" seems a little strange to most people.

If they are very religious it is probably because they are worried about you. A lot of religions have beliefs that say frightening things about people (or about what will happen to people) who don't believe the way they do or who don't believe in the God/god that they do.

Because you actually do believe in something, whether it be religion or your computer or your motorcycle or what ever it is you covet. Believing in something is a religion.
