You're not weird unless you let someone else define you as being weird. I also listened to rock when I was a young teenaged black girl, and even my mother look at me kinda strange. I still don't care for rap (although that could be due to my age, 50+) but the point is that you should listen to whatever makes you happy and don't worry about people's reactions. P.S. I also like classical. I find that some of my own race have these preconceived false notions about what makes a person "black" which is a crock of #@#@. Be who you are.

It most likely depends on where you are located. I'm black and I live in Connecticut, and I listen to all kinds of music; rock (The Offspring, Linkin Park), rap( Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco), electronic (Daft Punk, The Prodigy). Some of my black friends (mostly girls too) can sing some Greenday and Fallout Boy songs by heart. And if you listen to the mp3 players of some of my white friends you'll find Cam'ron and Busta Rhymes. One of my best friends (who's Indian) listens to all the same stuff, especially dancehall (sean paul, Vybz Kartel) since im of Jamacian heritage, and he introduces me into some pretty cool indian pop and rap music.
I don't catergorize my friends by race because my school is really diverse (its a magnet school and was designed to be), but im just making the point that it depends on your location and its not weird for your race, but maybe your location.

Cultural thing. R and B and Soul were prominent black genres during the 40s, 50s, and 60s before Civil Rights were attained. Harlem in fact was the heart of soul. Jimi Hendrix was ridiculed for his love of rock in the 60s so not much has changed. White people played on rock and roll and swing. Just the way society has played things out. The funny thing is rock is rooted in both blues and jazz, both prominently southern and initially black genres. BB King, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Howlin Wolf, were 50s artists who set the platform for rock. Some of my favorite rockers are black. Jimi Hendrix is the best example! Slam that on anybody who makes funny of you. Be proud of rock man you guys played a huge role in making it!!!

It's stupid stereotyping that deems it strange, and the people who believe the stereotype are equally stupid.
Although you must admit, as far as black rock & roll singers / musicians are concerned, there aren't really that many. Apart from Jimi Hendrix and Phil Lynott (from Thin Lizzy) I struggle to think of any more. I suppose that these stereotypes are perhaps based in reality, but (just like Chinese Whispers) after time become more and more cemented into (stupid) people's minds.
Don't worry about what other people think, and never stop rocking and rolling...

Your not weird. People are just stereotyping . Rap is dominated by Black musicians. Whereass, Rock is dominated by white musicians. With the exception of Lenny Kravitz. He rocks. Love his music. People assume that you will stick to rap using this reasoning. We all know what happens when people assume.

Your not its just a stereotype Its like a white guy jammin to Mexican music or a Hispanic listening to country. We all have are own tastes, it's just a little out of the ordinary that's all. I think it,s cool you can do what you want and not br affected by society.

Because people are just stereotypical.
They think that, with all the Black stars and "Ghettos", that all Black people should listen to Rap and Gangsta Music.
Im Hispanic and listen to Techno o.O
Think of how people think of me
