Okay, I'm 14 and I live in Ontario. I was told by the Employment Standards Of Ontario that at the age 14 you are eligible to work at arenas, waitressing, filing at offices and in retail. The problem is that i've called tons of restaurants and looked at retail places and i've tried to get a hold of the arenas and etc.. but every place seems to have an age 15 policy. This doesn't make sense! Why would the Employents Standards say age 14 if everywhere its age 15?!!?
please help! I have no idea what to do and i need a job to keep up with my cell phone bill and everything else i have to pay for because my parents wont help. I also need a job because I have no money and my parents can't give me money seeing as we don't have a lot of money. PLEASE HELP!!!
any ideas will do!

Babysitting is your best bet. (I thought McD's would hire you at 14 but...). If you really want to make something out of it, make it your own little business. Make your own business cards, send out flyers etc. in your neighbourhood. Get your parents involved for support. You can do a first aid course that can help you sell yourself better. I did this for my little sister when she was 12 and now at 16 she makes more money than most kids her age. She also has 4 of her friends working with her and they are THE source in our city for sitters. She has a website! (I'm crazy, I know but my sister wanted to start her own business just like me and look where it got her).
My company has a not-for-profit Youth in Business Program. Technically you are too young for the program but since I am the owner, I can bend the rules. If you want some help getting started, check out our website and get in touch with us. Good Luck!

Some companies like Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, etc... Will accept below 15 years of age for hired help. If it is just for a paycheck, then I would look into something of that nature. Reason being... You will need job experience for one thing. Most companies are looking for experience. This will give you roughly a year of experience under your belt and then move onto a different job or what not if needed. Good luck!

Just keep trying. You're too young to be working already. Instead of focusing on stablishments do something that involves going to the people you know instead. Something like light household task. You don't need too much money to keep with with expenses. Try to lessen the amount of cell phone usage. Enjoy your teenage years you'll be run down by the time you need to have a real job otherwise.

The answer is simple.
Just because it's legal to hire someone at the age of 14 doesn't mean companies want to do it. 14 year olds are imature and require supervision for their entire shift.
15 and 16 are typical ages to begin work. 14 is just far too young for any company to hire.

Maybe you could find a babysitting job,or maybe your parents can talk to some of their friends about you doing small jobs for them,filing papers,helping them w/ odd jobs around their homes?!Good Luck!!

well, try to be persistant but not annoying to employers. try supermarkets or family owned caf`es. if you were in florida i'd give you a jobbie.... best of luck!!!
