Yes, as someone else mentioned it is referred to as the Rooney rule. However with the "good ole boys" network still firmly in place certain owners have found ways to make a mockery of it and while it has merit on the surface people have to realize it is really a dog and pony show. These owners are all either billioniares or very close to it, they will not bow to a rule they feel interfers with business decisions. A perfect example was when the Lions hired Mariucci and Matt Millen (AKA the biggest idiot in football) publicly declared his lovefest for mariucci therefore basically ignoring the Rooney rule. Jerry Jones hired Bill Parcells at the same time and didnt interview a minority either, he used the "good ole boy" network to get Denny Green to say "Yea, Dallas called but i wasnt interested" (take note that there was never an interview, each party claimed it was a phone interview....no fine doled out either!). The league has come a long ways with its overall attitude about minority hirings and having two minority head coaches in the Super Bowl will enhance future opportunities for other minority candidates (coincidentally in spite of the Lions big fine they actually have the highest amount of front office minorities in the league and did at the time of the fine as well, like i said "A dog & pony show" by the NFL).

Yes. The Steeler's owner, Dan Rooney, successfully lobbied in 2002 for a rule that requires all NFL teams to interview minority candidates for coaching jobs.

FYI...the Steelers just hired their first minority coach in the team's history. Mike Tomlin was hired today. He was the defensive coordinator for the Vikings.

that's a sturdy rule if used acceptable and the minority candidate shows an inherent ability for the job. i've got self assurance there are a number of minority applicants who can do the job and communities could desire to be open to all opportunities because of the fact the candidate could be a "diamond interior the tough." merely because of the fact any candidate is interviewed it would not propose which you would be able to get the job.If the candidate is the terrific in flair, character, disposition and professionalism that candidate whether a minority or no longer could desire to get the job.

Yes, the Rooney rule, as it is called. Ignoring the rule can result in fines.

Yes, ask the Detriot Lions, they were fined for not doing that.

I'm not sure. I sort of had the impression that affirmative action was a little misleading.
