I am sorry, I am a nurse and Iknow abou thtis. It is heart breaking. It is impossible to tell how bad or how quickly it will happen; but it will never get better, only worse I am sorry to tell you. I fear my father has this, so I know it is hard for you. try to get some support for the future -ask you GP about home care and grants for care. Try to think how you might like your sister cared for. Look in to possiblility of decent Nursing home care, as she may need 24 hour supervision. Best of luck

There are support groups you can attend. I recommend attending they can provide the emotional support as well as finding resources.

I had a friend that had dealt with her father being ill for 10 years... It's very emtionally distrubring to all parties involved.

You can ask the doctor for recommendations for support groups. To my understanding Liza Gibbons also has a support system and a co-worker of mine said it so far was the best she's tried.

I am very sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. Unfortunately this is a disease that will only get worse. The best thing you can do for your sister-in-law is to support her family as best you can. The only comfort can come from the fact that she will not be aware of her condition.

Alzhiemers is a progressive degenerative brain disorder(Dementia). It often starts with simple forgetfullness then progresses to complete misery for the sufferer and their relatives. It is very sad but your sister will not recover from it, it will just get worse. So much so that she will need 24hour specialist care .

Yes i do know, but it depends on the type of dementia, I can suggest that you go onto the alzheimers society webpage, it will give you the best information you can want. I wish you luck, as I know what this illness is like.
Take good care x

We was told when my mother got this cruel disease that it usually takes from two to seven years to die from it. It is a terrible illness nobody understands unless they have had contact with it. I was forever bathing my mum and washing her hair to keep her clean as she was incontinent. I wish you luck, does she still recognise you and does she get nasty with her loved ones. That is more or less in the final stages, plus running about at night and not sleeping.

My friend's husband is the same. The best that can be done is to give her the best care possible and try to show affection, rather than horror at her condition.
