I know that element 43 (Technetium) is synthetic, but how is that possible? It is right in the middle of the periodic table. Aren't all elements one through ninety-two natural?

Tc has no stable isotopes. Neither does promethium, No. 61. It has to do with a stable number of nucleons (protons and neutrons) 89n the nuclei, just as atoms have stable electron configurations.
