I have a 1996 Saturn SL1, oil or something is leaking into the coolant, which is leading to the engine running hot....I know SOMETHING needs to be fixed, and most people have told me it is a cracked head gasket. Is this a repair that seems worth it? My car has 102,024 miles on it......anyone have an estimate on the cost? I am pretty lame when it comes to cars.....Thanks....

somewhere ballpark of a grand. its cheaper than swapping the motor, but if you have decent credit, a thousand bucks for the repair, and the title to the saturn, sell it or trade it in and buy a new car. too much grief.

easily sounds like a blown head gasket. Do you have a pal who likes engaged on vehicles? A 4cyl could desire to be extraordinarily trouble-free to replace the top gasket on, so consistent with danger you go do some thing for a pal in replace for them fixing it for you. White exhaust on a gas engine skill there is water interior the cylinders whilst it extremely is working. you're able to desire to take it to a storage, or lease the tester, and get a coolant device attempt completed. If it extremely is properly worth fixing or no longer in case you're able to desire to pay somebody, it truly relies upon on what style of shape the motor vehicle is in.

Depending on the year, make and model of the car, it could be quite costly. From what I know about cars, what you've heard is most likely right, a blown head gasket. Good luck.

If its the head gasket, remove cylinder head and replace it. If its the silicone type, don't start the car until it cures. (at least 12 hours.)
Just hope its not more serious like a warped cylinder head. They can warp with overheating.

I don"t have experience with Saturn but a similar repair would cost 800 to 1200 on another vehicle. you might be pressing your luck.

I would see what the garage says. You need the car to trade, or go buy a cheap new car. I would see what the prob is before making moves.
