I agree, every person should have the freedom to be who they really are.

I love being a lady and I think it's still appreciated. I can have a little wild streak and still be ladylike. By ladylike, I mean that I'm not crude. I don't swear. I speak well and use good English. I dress well and wear feminine clothing with stockings and high heels. I expect men to treat me deferentially and with respect. I guess I believe that old saying about being a lady in public and a tigress behind closed doors. I just appreciate the difference between men and women and I have no desire to "let it all hang out" or to be one of the guys.

Hi. I dont really care about being ladylike as such, but my mother bought all of us (boys and girls) up to have manners and be polite. Some people confuse this with being ladylike. Ie. If I leave the room to burp or something, some of friends will tell me that I am "such a girl". Well, no, I just think it is rude to burp in people's faces, so I have a bit of respect and leave for a minute. I also dont swear much. But I do stick up for myself and I voice my opinions.

In a way I do but in a way I don't.... There is a time and place for everything that you do... You wouldn't go into a church and start cursing like you didn't have any home training. Everyone is their own person but at the same time you should know how to act at certain places. Besides being lady like is not such a bad thing... Not everyone wants a Tom Boy on their sides anyway...... In other words just know how to act at the right time.

If being ladylike is about refraining from uttering profanities and crude jokes I'm all for being ladylike.

I agree with you, however I still wouldn't want to belch in public or scratch my crotch to prove a point. I don't find ladylike and mannerly to be interchangeable. I think people need to have some class and that means both men and women.

Yes and no. I like being ladylike because that is the status quo. But, I like being rude too. So I guess you can pick.

I do agree with you, but unfortunately we live in a society where it is nearly impossible to break a social norm without being ridiculed. But we are all guity of doing this... if you see a lady belch loudly in public you are most likely going to be disgusted in some way, and much more disgusted than if it were a man.
But yes, every woman is her own person and should not have to live up to certain standards set by society just because of her gender.

I agree with you completely. I am a member of Dykes on Bikes, and I enjoy playing softball, especially if there are trophies awarded after the game and if there is a keg of beer to tap. Definitely not ladylike characteristics.

Well there are women, and there are ladies. I think behavior is determined by the demands of the kind of company you keep. Less demands? then by all means let your hair down and uncross your legs. But, there are still some things that no one wants to see. Even the dykes I have met have dignity and respect for people, and maintain self-pride.
