You need at least calc. It is more of handling the workload, but there are a ton of formulas to memorize.
If you're bad at math and can't do at least calculus, don't bother being an engineer. Engineering classes are HARD. I suck at math. I might have been able to pass, but there's no guaranteeing it. My roommates in college were all engineers and I saw their homework. Couldn't make heads or tails out of it.

I would say that class load has more to do with your ability to become a engineer. the required courses and math are very intense and will require you to remember alot of formulas,
being wiz kid i would say No, good foundation in Alg, Cal,Trig; would make the road alot easier than going in without it.

You have to be really good to pass all those classes in college, but once you are working somewhere there are all kinds of spreadsheets and programs that do the math for you.
