I am writing an article for my school news paper on "Fashion" and how it defines a person. Anything about fashion will help. Thanks

We each choose what kind of image we want to project to the world. Whether is all black, a short skirt, sweats or a suit, we are telling people something about ourselves.

Since we put that effort in, people of course make judgments about a person based on what the person is wearing.

I also find that the clothes I wear effect how I think about myself. If I am dressed for work, I feel more professional and speak as correctly as I can. If I am in exercise clothes, I am much more casual in my attitude and my speech.

Good Luck with your article!

Yes, how you appear affects a lot of things. When you go to a job intervue you don't wear old jeans and a torn up shirt. It's all about the first impression if you wanted to become a hockey player you wouldn't wear Seven Jeans with a Polo shirt. It would get torn or something would happen and wouldn't be the best protection from the puck.
No matter how much people deny it they notice what people are wearing in the very first glances of them. If they are wearing Abercombie and Fitch or if they are wearing a shirt from Hot Topic.
Although, what is inside matters more appearance does matter.
I hope that helps!

Yes because we humans make snap judgments based on what we see. We assume a man in a suit is trustworthy. A woman in skimpy clothes is loose. Guys in leather and torn jeans are thugs. When you see a woman in old fashioned, baggy clothing, you assume she's dorky. There's a reason why professional women wear red "power suits". People automatically identify with people based on what they wear- we gravitate towards people similar to us.
Also, look at school uniforms- when all the kids are dressed the same, academics go up.

I've been working at The Gap for 3 1/2 years now. Style and color can tell alot about a person. I am not an expert but people who usually buy long sleeves are often modest, shy, and the long sleeves gives them that "warm" feeling inside and out.
Bright colors often indicate that you are carefree, happy, and you want the world to notice YOU!!
Tanktops, short shorts, and skirts are usually bought by customers who absolutely love themselves for who they are. They are not afraid to show anything and they almost, always are the life of the party.
Jeans are the universal favorite. Whether you dress 'em up or down, EVERY person who owns a pair of jeans can tell you the story behind them. ;)

Oh yeah.First of all,the clothes that a person wears is all you know about them if u have never met them before and people jugde them(even if they say that they don't) based on how they look.Second, the way you dress and take care of your self kinda places you where your supposed to be within the groups at school.Lastly, people are friends with people that dress the same and are kinda like you and nobody wants to be friends with someone that looks bad.Its just the way it is.Thats why brands are really in like if u wear Hollister and Aeropostale ur preppy. If you wear volcom or element,ur a skater. If you wear Skin and fox,r a rider. Then, comes the names that wearing certain clothes gives you.Wearing really baggy clothes with nikes and plain tees:gangster.wearing skater clothes:trying to be white(at my school,my friends are mostly white among mostly mexicans). If you wear fox and SRH and skin and famous and ou have a boyfriend that wears that too,ur a bro hoe.People label you based on what you wear no matter who you are.

First, it can define an individual's personality.

See if they are wearing clothes that are skimpy or cover their skin to determine if they are modest or flirty. If they are wearing what is considered cool, they want to fit in. If they wear more individual outfits, they are probably into art.

Second, other people (more likely those who aren't your friends) WILL JUDGE YOU based on your clothing.

They'll place you into labels based on what you wear--preppy, nerd, etc. And they'll assume you are the worst steryotypes of the people in that group. Teachers even judge students based on their clothing--i've heard of ones looking down girls' shirts or giving students bad grades because they dress goth (assuming it shows their anger, not creativity and individuality). But if you dress nice, you will more likely get picked for the job because you seem cleaner.

People will usually be friends with those who dress like them.

Many people will wear is in style. They conform.

Yes, it's really the first thing people notice about you. It's a great way for people to define their individual self (some choose the all-black, some choose only dresses and skirts, some only wear designer (which doesn't mean seven jeans, it means full-out dior, chanel, escada, versace...) some choose jeans and a tee...). It's really a way to show the variety and the mixture of ethnic backgrounds in America. Even though it seems shallow for us to define ourselves by what we wear, it really does reflect us in ways that we may not even notice.

yes cause i think clothes shows your personality and what kind of music you listen to. like if you have chains and dark clothing and a mohawk, i would think that the person would listen to rock music, etc. so yes i think what you wear affects what people think of you and it also shows creativity..
