I just bought a dvd recorder, and I would like to know what the different is between the dvd -r and dvd+r disc

Not really much of a difference, it's just 2 different format that's all. Use whatever disc that your dvd player can read. Older players/recorders can only read/write one format, newer players/recorders can read/write both.
