Underwear are usually worn by folks in Western Society (US etc.). They are NOT necessarily worn by aborigines and even some westerners.. they are a societal artifact NOT a requirement to be "human!"

But the "reason" people wear underwear here are that your privates/genitals produce a LOT of stuff.. from stinky sweat, seepage from penis or vagina, whatever comes out of your butt and you didn't TP away, dead skin etc. AND the underwear contains that 'stuff', and you change every day? I don't change my PANTS everyday! so undies keep my pants clean enough so I can wear them again without poopy smells etc. PLUS like other said on your, if you are a man, your scrotum/balls can wiggle around and you can almost sit on things NOT made for sitting, quite painful.

The same reason you wear your underwear - that is, to protect your very private part from the wandering eyes of people who are not supposed to see that.

Mostly to cover odors from the nether regions, and to keep pants clean, and support for some of the men. You notice, when you take off your undies at night, there may be a smell that comes up, or there may be a skidmark in the butt. Underwear prevents these from staining or smelling-up the trousers or dress.

To keep private parts warm and safe from zipplers. Also in the past soft clothing was more expensive than rough. A poor person who could not afford a soft outfit. But a rough outfit could make a person's privates so sore that they couldn't walk so they bought just enough soft cloth to get by..

women wear i guess only so you dont really see there but crack or keep there thingy thingy closed away frm the outside environment.
