1. Person to person communication, like making phone calls and sms.

2. Person to device or system, like paying for parking using sms, or controlling temperature by sending sms to AC

3. Person to group, Like sending sms to group of peopl and social networking

4. Person to place, Like sending sms to home or school or office...
where a display will show your sms and anyone can read or reply it.

5. Individual communication, like reminders or similar.

I think person to people communication is another form. Person to group means you're sending a message to a group of people you know collectively like a team at work or your church's parish. These messages are usually given to provide instructions or to gather information through surveys.

Person to people instead means you're sending a message to people you do not know collectively yet are trying to contact. Usually, this is done by big companies who are trying to advertise to target markets. The companies don't actually know who they're messaging, they're just sending them messages to get their attention as in another form of advertising.

Governments do this as well. I found out about the recent tax adjustments because of how I received a msg telling me to check out a website which revealed the adjustments to me.
