For those who are unaware....

in folklore Green was considered the colour of the 'little people' 'elves' etc,

thus it was considered to be unlucky for humans to wear Green.

The meaning of a colour changes with its shade. Thus each shade of green has a different meaning, therefore all above answers may differ and be right at the same time. For different meaning of green shades please refer to "Green in Culture" in Wikipedia. Thank you.

I doubt it has anything to do with Fairies, who do not exist, and are depicted wearing every known colour. I recall British Racing Green becoming "unlucky" after a spate of nasty accidentsthat shook the racing public Today green is not a popular colour within the car trade. Green as a fashion colour, was always considered difficult to match up with shirt, shoes, etc, and " blue and green should never be seen", became a catchphrase for the fashion purist. Green clothing, like the cars, is unfashionable.

Green is where the green grass grows. It is the colour of the light of Lucifer. Green is the colour of Venus and Peace. The Colour of the new Green Piece. Green in Ireland is the colour of the Shamrock. In France it is unlucky, and nobody wears green. In Germany it was the military uniform, and the chosen colour of red hair people. It is the sacred colour of the Saudi Flag, so they like green that would explain why the others don't like green.
I like to wear pale yellow-green when I go outdoors or for sport.

I really don't think the colour green is bad luck, my father was a great man and when he died he sent a message to my sister saying green was her lucky colour, later on in the year my sister discovered in my dad's old coat a green glass stone, since then she has carried it everywhere and she has the best luck and good fortune anyone could ask for.

Don't think this is what you are looking for but the INS once found a mexican kid that was deaf and dumb; they turned him over to some welfare group that gave him the Hellen Keller treatment. While trying to teach him colors, he freaked out on green. Ran into the closet screaming. Turns out border patrol wears green and green cards used to be green.

I've heard that too! Because the faeries wore green (largely because they were nature spirits), it was considered dangerous for humans to wear it, b/c the faeries might get jealous and hurt them, or lure them away to faerieland. Good times :-)

And then there's the religious connection of green standing for Ireland. A friend of mine who lived for awhile in New Jersey said that only the Catholics were supposed to wear green on St. Patrick's day, and the Protestants were supposed to wear orange (like William of Orange), and that you got pinched if you wore the *wrong* color. How's that for weird? And a bit disfunctional.

That said--I don't think anyone buys into the superstitions enough to fear wearing green... unless maybe you're on the wrong side of town in an politically sensitive area of Ireland :-)

In modern folklore, the colour green is associated with the evil empire, which is Glasgow Celtic Football Club. This would explain the vast legions of unsuspecting citizens who are thrown into a frightful panic on the streets of Glasgow every second week. Apparently the best amulet against this hoard of lepers is.... a bar of soap.

Not me, I love green in all its hues. However, my mother was very superstitious of green and I think that some very old people still believe green to be very unlucky.
