Wouldn't it make life a whole lot easier if they flipped on a frickin' switch and freed their "flashlight hand" for something else? Is there a genuine reason for this? Do real detectives do it? They're especially bad about it on CSI. It drives me crazy. I'm all for saving energy, but not when there's the possibility of a big burly bad guy jumping out at me from the shadows.
