I have a 2005 Dodge and a few nights ago I put it into park and suddenly the idle began to climb as if I had my foot on the gas. I shut it off immediately and started the car again...and it repeated the same response with the RPM's climbing . Can someone explain to me what may be the problem?

You need to get it into a shop so that they can scan the computer for codes. One of your sensors is likely giving the computer false information, causing the computer to order more gas/air into the cylinders. This could also be caused by a vacuum leak. Have it checked out.

BTW, if it is still doing it, the car will be unsafe to drive. Have it towed.

This is a silly answer but true...

Check your car mat and see if it is wedged behind the gas pedal.

Honest ! It happened to me one time and it took me almost 20 minutes of poking around under the hood before it dawned on me where the problem might be.

Let me know... I would be curious if anyone else had this problem.

a foul plug or a foul cord. a difficulty with the digital distributor (computer). between the cylinders isn't getting the pastime executed. start up with wires and plugs. that's lower priced and needs periodic alternative besides. A word to the different solutions.... No, a ninety 9 lexus would not use a distributor cap, it has digital spark distribution (duh). And Exhaust gas regulation (valve) has no longer some thing to do with a misfire code so as that is a pink herring too.

Sounds like you may have a bad throttle cable. Have someone take a look. If you don't have a friend that knows something about vehicles, you may have to tow it to the mechanic to have it fixed.

Your car is telling you it wants to see the dealer before the warranty runs out.
